Arne Jacobsen

Among the architects of Denmark, Arne Jacobsen is the one who achieved world fame. Jacobsen became known, not only as an architect and furniture maker, but also as a designer of noble decorative arts. (Design series of stainless steel jugs).

Jacobsen learned the trade of a bricklayer. Subsequently, he studied at the Academy of Arts in Copenhagen. In the 1920s Jacobsen was awarded several medals for his creative works. His buildings include the City Hall in Aarhus, the SAS building in Copenhagen, the Danish National Bank and the administrative building of the Hamburg Electricity Factories.

With his most important commission, the SAS building in Copenhagen, Jacobsen was given the opportunity to create not only the building and interior, but also every single element of used furniture. In this way, Arne Jacobsen was able to realize his idea of the need for a unified design.

One of his most famous furniture designs the Egg Chair or also known as the Egg armchair Jacobsen created in 1958 for the reception area of the SAS Hotel in Copenhagen. Jacobsen renounced straight lines and realized the chair model egg only from curves. The Ei armchair, which is basically reminiscent of a futuristic wing chair, therefore also appears organic. Arne Jacobsen's design of the Ei chair was far ahead of its time and is today more in demand than ever.
