Arne Jacobsen Egg Chair
Arne Jacobsen developed this armchair - also named Egg Chair - in 1958. The Jacobsen Egg Chair was designed for the lobby of the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. The design of the Arne Jacobsen Egg Chair contains no straight lines. It consists entirely of curves and is therefore described as organic. The backrest swings up and becomes wider than classic wing chairs.
The Egg armchair today makes use of new manufacturing techniques and materials but owes its initial originality to Arne Jacobsen's effort to create sculptural and organic-looking forms. Jacobsen has clearly succeeded with its armchair design.
Both, the Egg Chair and the
Swan Chair are so-called curve-studies: their soft and round shapes provide a comfortable seating experience while at the same time expressing clean lines. The Egg armchair comes with a loose seat cushion as well as a matching footstool.
That the Ei armchair today holds the status of a design classic should be undisputed. The armchair transmits an extremely pleasant and luxurious atmosphere. In order for this aura to unfold, the Egg Chair requires an appropriate amount of space. As a free-standing piece of furniture, its visual advantages come into their own.
The Egg Chair conveys a feeling of security. One feels safe and well taken care of. The Egg can be used in waiting and lounge areas, in public buildings or for use in private living areas. The Ei chair is definitely not a mass product, but rather a handmade art - and masterpiece for upscale living.

Origin
Prototypes of the Egg chair were actually made in Arne Jakobsen's garage. The models were first cast in plaster. The armchair itself consists of molded fiberglass shells resting on cast aluminum swivel star legs. Using the highest quality top materials and incorporating the latest production technologies, the result was a "one-piece" piece of furniture paired with the highest level of seating comfort.
Design
The unusual shape of an egg armchair not only makes this piece of furniture extremely appealing. The egg chair also has an enormous recognition value which is predestined for upscale living culture. The Egg Chair can be adjusted in inclination and its polished aluminum four-star base can be rotated.
Production
The back section of the Egg Chair consists of a steel structure that supports a polyurethane seat shell upholstered with cold foam. The four-star base that supports the chair is polished and rotatable. The rocking mechanism flexibly follows the movements of its user while sitting. When getting up from the chair, the Egg Chair returns to its initial position.
The subsequent upholstering of the Egg Chair must be done with extreme precision in order to ensure the purity of the form. The most suitable cover materials are leather covers of the highest quality and a special wool fabric (Wool Nico Trend, consisting of 80% wool and 20% polyamide nylon). Simple or cheap leather covers or cotton fabrics, on the other hand, are not suitable as cover materials.
