Eames Lounge Chair

Charles and Ray Eames had designed the prototype of the lounge chair in the 1950s. The Eames were friends with Billy Wilder, the no less famous filmmaker.

The chair was intended as a gift for Wilder to comfortably indulge in his television excesses. In the first step, the armchair was also made only as a unique piece. This without any ulterior motive, that from this club armchair model once a best-seller could develop. But maybe there was some calculation involved. Only Charles and Ray Eames themselves probably know.

This chair became one of the most popular club chairs in the world. The extremely high seating comfort and its special design make this chair stand out. Today, the lounge chair (with or without the matching footrest) is probably one of the most sought-after armchairs around the globe. As a TV chair, for reading or just relaxing, this armchair is the ultimate choice.

Classicfactory24 Manufacture offers you this furniture classic in its original form of 1956, which is equal to the models of Herman Miller. The production is made according to the specifications of the licensee ICF (Milan - Italy) true to the original and high quality. The use of original tools from that time paired with Italian craftsmanship guarantee the highest quality.

Available in many versions
The armchair can be ordered in different leather variants and colors or in fabric. In addition, different finishes of the wooden shells can be ordered. Cherry - or rosewood veneer. Charles Eames (1907 - 1978). Designer and architect of American descent.
Charles and Ray Eames had an impressive influence on post-war design in the USA.
Among the most famous designs are undoubtedly the office and conference chairs of the Aluminium Group (EA 117, EA 119, EA 219, EA 108, EA 208), stools (EA 125, EA 225) and lounge chairs (EA 124, EA 224).

Sensation and fame
The highest fame Charles and Ray Eames achieved through the designs of their chairs. In particular, the 1956 model Lounge Chair with footrest in wood and leather caused a sensation.

Its history dates back to 1940 in which the model was shown as a prototype in Organic Design in Home Furnishings. The model showed an armchair in modern style that offered the comfort of a traditional armchair. Later, different versions of the chair were created, which led closer to the solution. According to Charles Eames, the chair was intended to have "the warm inviting look of a much used baseball glove". (Hence the cover in dark brown leather which is warm and cozy and not black as very often offered). Around 1956, film director Billy Wilder and a close friend of the Eames, received the first prototype of the chair as a gift. The chair fit like a glove.

First TV appearance
The first series of 50 chairs was made by machine and assembled by hand. The models all ended up in Herrman Miller's showrooms. An employee arranged for the lounge chair to be featured on the television show "Home Show". The chair became a bestseller and the Lounge Chair achieved worldwide fame.

The Eames chair combines comfort with art and has become part of design history. You can find this club chair in stylish homes, in offices, in lounges and also in museums.

An armchair goes around the world
The ensemble of armchair and ottoman is characterized by the highest seating comfort and the highest possible quality in manufacturing. With its high recognition value and its design which very well also polarizes this design icon goes around the world.
