Origin and idea
The Le Corbusier chair LC1 shines through its unique construction - intelligent and comfortable at the same time. Le Corbusier again found support for this project with his old comrades Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand. The chair, designed in 1928, is also known as the model name LC1 Chair Basculant, Safari Chair, Sling Chair or Easy Chair and is without a doubt one of Corbusier's masterpieces.

As Carl Hansen's role model, the greatest attention was paid to the construction of the chair's backrest. The invented details of the mechanism were ingenious with the aim to support the back in any sitting position, to remain mobile and at the same time not to neglect comfort.

Chair or armchair
As early as 1929, the LC1 was presented at the Paris Salon. The LC series presented later achieved world fame. Thanks to Corbusier's avant-garde vein, this design looked minimal, functional and yet very elegant.

Le Corbusier broke with the established formal language and redesigned it. Using new materials, such as tubular steel, he succeeded in launching a new design era. The design of a pre-positioned backrest paired with a rocking mechanism was simple yet very effective. The chair looked elegant, space saving and became a best seller.

The LC1 Basculant chair was designed far from a classic upholstered chair. It therefore appeared airy and casual, offering a comfortable and relaxing seating position.

Structure
The seat and movable back of the chair were upholstered in either cowhide or core leather. Core leather was processed for armrests. This resulted in the unique model«s name ÒSling ChairÓ. The tubular steel frame of the chair was high-gloss chrome plated or painted matte black.

The seat of the chair is slightly tilted backwards and has a movable backrest - behind it a construct of steel springs is attached. It creates a high level of seating comfort, which at first glance you would not have confidence in finding with this compact chair. The steel tube frame construct was fixed with screws to achieve highest stability.
