Gabriele Mucchi "Genni" Lounge Chair | Set with Stool
The Gabriele Mucchi lounge chair probably has one of the most exciting origin stories to tell.
Mucchi was one of the leaders of the avant-garde movement in Milan in the 1930s and was active in many areas of focus.
He was an engineer and a painter. Impressed by Le Corbusier and Terragni, he made his "Genni" Lounger in a furniture factory where he worked from 1935 to 1945.
Gabriele derived the name of the now famous furniture design - which moreover holds the status of a true furniture classic - from his first wife Jenni Mucchi-Wegmann.
When said furniture factory was closed, this extraordinary model disappeared from the market as well. Only later the Genni Lounger was rediscovered and reproduced by an architect from Mucchi's circle of acquaintances.
A famous quote by Gabriele Mucchi in relation to his age was: "Don't get rich - it ruins your head". Nonetheless, he admitted - true to Goethe - to living in pleasant circumstances.
