The standard for the aluminum group was a chair that is suitable for indoor as well as outdoor use. At the same time, the use of material should be minimized as well as the volume should be minimized. After a development period of three years, the first prototypes of the "Leisure Group" were created in 1958. The design principle follows the formation of a load-bearing textile seat shell stretched between two aluminum profiles. Horizontal seams (now high-frequency welded) ensure a stiffening of the fabric and prevent the shell from "sagging". At the lower and upper ends of the shell, the fabric is rolled up for an elegant and comfortable edge and forms a respectable finish. The seat cover consists of five layers of different materials and ensures that a very high seat comfort is achieved despite a minimal cushioning strength. The tensioning design is visible through the use of so-called clasps in the back and seat area, giving the chair an additional, optical lightness. Through the consistent application of the design principle and the use of the same parts, various variants have emerged over time: Office and conference chairs (EA 117, 119, 219, 108, 208), stools (EA 125, EA 225), lounger chairs (EA 124, EA 224). The covers used were vinyl, fabric, leather and net (from 1984). The version realized with the addition of upholstery bags from 1969 onwards is available under the name "Softpad", initially in fabric and leather versions, now only in leather.
